Dr. Kevin Collon

Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon in LA

Dr. Kevin Collon is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, and serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. His clinical practice is built on one foundational belief: each patient is more than an injury or diagnosis — they are individuals with unique goals, concerns, and stories. Dr. Collon strives to treat every patient as he would a member of his own family — with respect, clear communication, and care that is tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

Training & Team‑Physician Experience

Dr. Collon completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Southern California (USC) and then went on to complete fellowship training in sports medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Waterman, a widely recognized leader in the field of orthopaedic sports medicine. His fellowship provided unparalleled experience in the full scope of sports‑medicine surgery, including complex cartilage and ligament reconstruction, tendon repair, shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee instability, femoroacetabular impingement, and primary and revision shoulder replacement surgery, among others. In addition to his academic practice, Dr. Collon serves as a team physician for both the Los Angeles Kings (NHL) and USC Athletics, where he provides comprehensive musculoskeletal care and return‑to‑play management for athletes at all levels.

Approach to Care

Dr. Collon’s approach to care is grounded in three key principles:

Individualized treatment

No two bodies or injuries are the same. Dr. Collon takes the time to understand each patient’s goals, activity level, and lifestyle to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Patient‑centered communication

He prioritizes transparency and education, ensuring that patients fully understand their options — whether nonoperative, operative, or orthobiologic — and are active participants in their care decisions.

Evidence‑based innovation

Dr. Collon integrates the latest advances in orthopaedics and biologic medicine with proven clinical techniques, balancing innovation with data‑driven outcomes to optimize patient recovery and long‑term joint health.

Commitment to Research & Innovation

Dr. Collon spent a dedicated year as a research fellow investigating stem‑cell and gene‑therapy applications for bone repair, notably through the Broad Clinical Fellows program at USC. His ongoing research focuses on orthobiologic and regenerative treatments with the goal of improving healing, preserving cartilage, and reducing the progression of joint degeneration. He remains actively engaged in academic research and publication to ensure that his clinical practice reflects the latest evidence and advances in the field.

Outside of the Clinic

Outside of work, Dr. Collon enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Kelly Collon, a pediatrician, and their two sons, Austin and Casey, along with their golden retriever, Cooper. Whether relaxing at the beach, exploring the outdoors, or simply spending quality time together, he values every opportunity to unwind with his family and stay active outside the operating room.
